"Out for a Jaunt (Echoes)"

"Out for a Jaunt (Echoes)" [mp3 removed]

A soundscape piece made with recycled recordings of the Doepfer A-112 sampler (percussive and quasi-avian sounds previously used in the tune "Out for a Jaunt"), run through several different delay/reverb plugin configurations and multi-tracked.

"Reggaebot Mutation"

"Reggaebot Mutation" [mp3 removed]

MIDI tunes played with modular synth patches (chords with short decay times), run through the Mutator filter or not. Also softsynth drums with digital reverb, and softsynth "tremelo organ." 130 bpm, 3/4 time, tried to make everything a little "off."

"Stress Theory"

"Stress Theory" [mp3 removed]

All done with the Mutator filter, two wavetable oscillators, and various forms of modulation, in real time. Some digital reverb (a spring tank clone) added later.
The modulation (mostly a couple of square wave LFOs working out of sync with each other and the beat) creates "stanzas" where the syllable stresses change from line to line. Tried to match some beats to this and couldn't do it. (Wonder if Ableton could...)
The beginning is just the Mutator self-oscillating, then the two wavetables are faded up, then the rest of it is just a slow, manual sweep of the filter cutoff knob's entire range. The sound changes pretty dramatically depending on what frequencies are being added/subtracted.

"Surface Variation"

"Surface Variation" [mp3 removed -- a revised version of this track is on Bandcamp]

Took the beats and one of the midi patterns from "No Wave No Service" and added some, sorry, jaunty melodies with clavinet, pianos, etc.
Running throughout is a semi-live modular synth* improvisation that interacts with the "keyboard" parts in various ways.
Am really happy with some of the contrapuntal parts where three or more tunes all come together.

*Mostly WMD's GammaWaveSource module with ADSR control voltages from another module twiddling effects such as "sample kill."

"No Wave No Service"

"No Wave No Service" [mp3 removed]

No-Wave 8-Bit House (?) where a series of wavetable synth module riffs have been syncopated using control voltage envelopes. The underlying beat consists of MIDI-triggered, sampled 808 hits.

Update: Remixed slightly and re-posted. The main themes were shortened at the beginning. Also the first bar or so is now beatless.
