"Gearloose Dub"

"Gearloose Dub" [mp3 has been moved to Bandcamp]

Same production method as "Riveter II" and "Post-Prefab" (fragmentary recordings of modular synth made into sample maps played in Reaktor Krypt, "manicured" into uniform loops in Cubase, arranged in Octatrack, then recorded "live" from a single Octatrack song -- here with no added beats). "Robot Jox (Ethnic Forgery)" is similar but arranged purely in Cubase instead of using the Octatrack.
Absurd, arranged hunks of sound, electro classical noise, irritatingly perky. Mostly I like the textures, where Krypt snatches up grains and cobbles them into crazy, unpredictable configurations.

"Riveter II"

"Riveter II" [mp3 removed -- tune is now on Bandcamp]

Several new riffs generated in Krypt using my Reaktor sample maps of modular synth recordings were loaded into the Octatrack sampler and combined with various other riffs and percussion hits.
The piece starts out as minimal techno, gets sort of lush and gothic with fake harpsichord and '60s pop string section bits, then closes minimal again.
The original "Riveter" uses those same not-really-strings chords.

The percussion and modular synth recording fodder for my Reaktor sample maps is also going into folders on the Octatrack sampler/sequencer.
This one uses some of that recycled material, but also a new recording of the modular synth. Specifically a patch where the ADDAC wav player's envelope follower triggers a voltage controlled amplifier (VCA) processing a pitched square wave output from a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO). When a drum sample in the ADDAC "peaks," the envelope bumps the VCA on the square wave. Due to the vagaries of the ADDAC's sample start and end times, these bumps are irregular, giving slight syncopations to the beat (both in the ADDAC drum loop and the simultaneously-played square wave). The sound is intriguing enough, I thought, to let it solo for a few seconds near the end.

Borrowed Can's term "ethnic forgery" to denote the kind of fictional world music I heard here after the composition fact.
Have been working on Reaktor "sample maps" of previously-used percussion hits and modular synth recordings, which can then be plugged into various Reaktor instruments. This one uses a modular synth map as the sound source in Krypt (a granular ROMpler). Two "sessions" -- one loud, one quiet -- were recorded and overtracked in Cubase.
