"Sid Suite 1"

"Sid Suite 1" [mp3 removed]

The percussion is the "kit" that I sampled of beats made on the Elektron Sidstation. Other sounds are sidstation samples made by a third party soundware co. And the rest is Reaktor's Oki Computer, which is a more sophisticated software version of SID chip-like synthesis (i.e., computer game-y). After watching too many YouTube demos of sidstations and sequencers I wanted to write something fairly structured, as an antidote to the disembodied hands of nerds touching a few sequencer buttons and just letting the resulting "music" play over and over.

"The Sleep of Reso"

"The Sleep of Reso" [mp3 removed]

A three-part song, about seven minutes, with LFO-ed drones, pitched echoes, and prog-ish pads over a hiphop rhythm at 100 bpm, fading into a faster 808 loop at 120 bpm with more pitched drum sounds, LFO-ed bass, and a slightly unquantized prog finale.

"Jam Science (Organic)"

"Jam Science (Organic)" [mp3 removed]

Used the MIDI notes of an earlier song ("Rinso Piano") to trigger "rock organ" samples and superimposed the organ parts on another previous, mostly rhythm piece, "Jam Science." Had to shuffle the "Rinso" segments around to find the best-sounding parts of the rhythm score for them to interact with, but didn't want it to resemble those '90s techno remixes where isolated phrases of a song float around on a pre-existing rhythm bed (not too much, anyway). Some head scratching went into making a de novo work. Parts of it sound like a house tune and really cook. Would like to get it all like that.

"Trumpets"

"Trumpets" [mp3 removed - later version is on bandcamp]

Jazzy dodecaphonish licks made after listening to Keith Emerson's '80s movie soundtracks for about a week. Not that it sounds like Emerson's dextrous playing at all--it's much more midi. I guess it's just those analog synth trumpets remind me of some of his anthemic dramatics. I struggled to make the ending more tonal after getting fed up with 12 tone noodling.
